Once again, the priests of Mary Star of the Sea and Holy Trinity will host a basketball game against a group of parishioners on Friday, June 25. The priests are looking forward to a challenge at the new Mary Star of the Sea High School campus on Taper Avenue in San Pedro.
For the third year in a row, what started out as a small, friendly pickup basketball game has grown into a great success. Father John Provenza, pastor of Mary Star of the Sea, and Monsignor Joseph Brennan, pastor of Holy Trinity, are the key players/coaches for the Priests.
This fun fundraiser originated in 2008 when the event was an auction item “won” by the highest bidder, Dennis Lane, vice president of Green Hills, at a Holy Trinity benefit. This prize was originally planned as just a few guys getting together to play basketball, but one of the priests suggested inviting everyone to witness and participate.
And, just like the past two years, everyone will come away as winners as proceeds for the event will be split between the two Catholic parishes.
