Christian Service Program
Goals:
The Christian Service Program seeks to develop our
students’ faith, so that it becomes a part of their daily lives.
Jesus tells us “whatever you did for the least of my brothers,
you did it for me.” (Mt. 25:40) Through serving others, our
students will discover their talents, their potential to care for
others, the need for personal responsibility toward all of God’s
creation and the joy which flows from loving God, neighbor and self.
Basic Requirements:
Each student is required to complete 60 hours of community
service and one reflection project in order to fulfill graduation
requirements. The emphasis of our program is to get our students directly
involved with those in the local community who are in need. It is
best that they share on a personal basis their talents and generosity
with the less fortunate. You must serve others besides family, neighbors
or friends. Students may begin this program
before their freshman year. Students are encouraged to complete
their hours by the end of junior year, or at the latest by the end
of first semester senior year. All service must be done outside
of school hours. Volunteers may not be paid for their services and
service organizations should be non- profit in nature. Students
should not be doing clerical work like filing papers.
The students are responsible for contacting the
agency where volunteer service can be done. Students are encouraged
to clarify expectations (theirs and the supervisors), responsibilities
and schedule or time commitment before starting work. This will
help eliminate any unhappy situations due to misunderstandings.
Please ask the Christian Service Director about
any questions you may have regarding your service. Thank you for
your goodness and loving service to our brothers and sisters in
Christ. God bless you!
