Message from the Rector:
Working Together

September, 2007

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends:

fathern.jpg - 4270 Bytes Welcome back! I am looking forward to the adventures of the new school year. Although we have not quite completed construction at the new campus in time for beginning our fi rst week of instruction, we are nevertheless ready to begin another exciting school year at our old campus. We are working hard to assure all our families of a timely, effi cient move to the new campus soon after dedication day. It is my hope that all of this school year’s endeavors will be grace fi lled, and will help each of us to grow in love of God and neighbor.

As Rector, one of my main duties is to see that the Catholic Christian Mission and Philosophy of our school is upheld. The school’s mission statement reminds us that “In the great tradition of Catholic education, Mary Star of the Sea High School challenges students to reach their full potential through a living faith in God.” In order for the students to reach their full potential, the school must provide an environment where a deep and living faith in God can be recognized. This God-centered environment is not limited merely to the church and religion class, but is something that must permeate all aspects of school life.

Further, this Christian environment essentially includes mutual respect. “If anyone says ‘I love God’ and hates his brother, he is a liar (1Jn. 4,20).” Let us remember that any difficult situation can be handled in a charitable and respectful manner. Remember the Golden Rule; “Do unto others whatever you would have them do to you (Mt. 7,12).” It is my desire that we all work together to foster this most important element of our school.

As we begin this new school year, I look forward to working with all of you to make this the best school year ever. May God bless you.

Sincerely in Mary, Star of the Sea,

Rev. Nicholas Tacito, O.Praem.
Rector

Message from the Principal:
Back to School

September , 2007

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends:

ritad.gif - 6839 Bytes Welcome to a new, exciting and historical school year! It is my hope this year will bring as much success to our students as was attained last year. The 2007 school year ended with a signifi cant number of students on the Honor Roll. These students will be recognized at the Academic Recognition Assembly scheduled on September 20. In addition, we are proud of our 50 students who received a passing score on one or more of the various AP exams. Perfect scores were received by two students on the U.S. History exam, one on Government and one on Calculus. Keep up the great work, Stars!

It is very important all parents attend Back to School Night on September 12. This evening gives parents the opportunity to meet each of the student’s teachers and the entire administration. Also, we will update the parents on the move to our new campus. The election for Parent Board offi cers will also take place this evening. The evening begins at 7 in the Auditorium and concludes with refreshments served at 8:40.

Although academics must be the first priority for Mary Star students, their participation in cocurricular activities is an integral part of their high school life. The Welcome Freshmen Dance on Friday, September 14, provides an excellent opportunity for the entire student body to celebrate the opening of a new school year. We look forward to the beginning of our fall sports season. Let us all support the pep squads, football, girls volleyball and our cross country teams throughout their seasons.

I would like to welcome the following faculty new to Mary Star: Mr. Patrick Linehan and librarian Ms. Sabrina Skacan. Please remember them and all our staff members in your prayers as they carry out God’s work in school ministry.

Finally, we welcome the whole Mary Star community to participate in our historical dedication celebration on September 30 at our new campus. In addition, we thank our students and our parents for their patience and support as we anticipate the move to our new campus. May God bless our new home and all who attend.

Sincerely yours,

Ms. Rita Dever
Principal
